Eat Drink and Be Merry

The perfect places to eat in Houston for any category

 A Casual Cafe: Cafe Brasil

       2604 Dunlavy

Brasil's exhibits a super relaxed and home-like aura for their customers, as well as an artsy and hipster feel to it.  The outdoor dining in the back is a courtyard and is also the backyard to the bookstore next door.
Its also open till 1 AM, which is definitely rare. The ambience is great and on friday nights they set up a movie on the patio, as well as a live band on other nights.

Their menu includes soups, salads, sandwiches tea, coffee and pastries. Some menu items are exotic such as the Tutto Crudo (flatbread brushed with garlic oil and baked with goat cheese topped with mozzerela, olives, arugula and parsley) and then they have your typical Caesar salad as well.

Brasil's will always be my go-to place for a cafe, despite the long drive to Montrose. When choosing Restaurants, I always opt for a local, non-chain Restaurant which can be pretty tricky to find in Houston. Every week I will continue posting my favorite  go-to places to eat in Houston for every category of eatery that I can think of. Happy Eating!

Laugh Out Loud

I think my friends would all agree that humor is a big part of who I am. It's quite rare for me to not find some sort of humor in a situation (unless someone died because then I would just be a jerk). But anyways, a good laugh is always something I am in search of. Throughout highschool my poor classmates had to endure my attempt of being funny through dirty pickup lines (sorry!) and constantly quoting south park and How I Met Your Mother. As finals quickly approach, It's important for me to find little things to entertain myself in order to not become a complete ball of stress.

Friday night our school had a Fine Arts Banquet for the school art department. Anyone in a fine art was able to participate in the festivities which included dinner and dancing. Two of my good friends Melissa and Katie were unfortunately trapped in the hotel elevator on their way to the banquet for an hour and a half along with 13 other people. Luckily they were okay so we all had a good laugh about it by the end of the night after the two had recovered from their traumatic experience.

This picture was taken after the first ten minutes. At the time they found the situation to be         hilarious and a cause for celebration

After about an hour as they realized they had no cell service AND no air conditiong,
things weren't quite so funny. Except for some reason Kelsey still has a smile on her face...Odd

This pic of Katie was taken in the final moments of their imprisonment. She looks like she's about ready to give up, Such a trooper. Although she isn't laughing at all, I definitely was when I saw this

One of my favorite Youtube Videos. Especially because my mom is a substitute teacher.

Survivor: Cook Island

Probably one of the most racist things I have ever seen, but I can't help but laugh

My favorite character from my favorite TV show, How I Met Your Mother

Under the Sea

Seafoam green has slowly made its way to the top as one of my favorite colors. Not to be confused with turquiose, seafoam is a little softer with a little more blue. Although it's under the category as green, I don't think that seafoam green gets enough credit for being as feminine as colors like peach and lavender. But as summer quickly approaches, seafoam will be part of my wardrobe without a doubt

Spotlight on Music

My taste in music tends to be really eccentric. Sometimes I'm in the mood for rap and literally 2 songs later I will be craving Jack Johnson. I even went through a 50's and 60's music phase about a month where I played nothing but beach boys and dorky sock hop music in my car. This past week my choice of music has been made up of chill, mellow and laidback music.

Here are a few of my favorites that have been kept on repeat.

Upside Down by Jack Johnson

Blood by Middle East

Casimir Pulaski Day by Sufjan Stevens

Chicago by Sufjan Stevens my favorite!

Young Blood by Naked and Famous

The General by Dispatch

Heart of Life by John Mayer

Animal by Miike Snow

Somewhere only We Know by Keane

Love to Hate.

the things I love to hate
-oatmeal cookies that decievingly look like chocolate chip
-teachers that don't show up to tutorials (cough cough coach Johnson)
-when the humidity ruins my hair
-people who drive too slow
-dress codes (how are my nike shorts considered "too sensual")
-those fake oreos called "tuxedos"
-people who treat Facebook like twitter
-people who instagram pics of themselves that clearly aren't selfies for #ss
-sequels to movies that were awful in the first place
-the couples in the hallways with excessive PDA

Pearls Please

Because of my love for all things preppy, naturally pearls are a necessity to me. Its amazing how a pair of simple pearl studs can add such a "put together" look to any outfit. I honestly believe that my friends are beginning to think that I only own one pair of earrings because I literally wear my pearls 24/7. Only taking them out when I absolutely need them.

A string of stacked pearls in the fall add a classy effect to an otherwise "dull" sweater or cardigan

My love for pearls was influenced by my mom, who is also wearing pearls. She opted for a black pair instead. Oftentimes we end up fighting over the pair I'm wearing in this picture, clearly I won though.

As you can see, pearls were even a part of my fancier outfits

Pearls are always appropriate
- Jackie Kennedy
A women needs ropes and ropes of pearls.
- Coco Chanel
I feel undressed if I don't have my pearls on. My pearls are my security blanket
- Lady Sarah Churchill
I favor pearls on screen and in my private life.
- Grace Kelly
You can't ever go wrong with pearls. Perhaps pearls are a girl's best friend after all

Houston Bucketlist

Often times people view Houston as just a big city with a lot of traffic, a lot of construction and a lot of ugly buildings. I wish I could say that they were wrong, but there are still beautiful sights as well as numerous things to do around Houston.  I have made a list of the places I have always wanted to go in Houston but haven't yet. Now that I finally have my license, there's really no excuse for me to not

1) The hobbit Cafe. My friend Mel and I have been talking about going here for so long. I honestly don't care if the food is good or not, any restaurant that is based on one of my favorite trilogys is bound to be one of my favorites.

 2) Blue Trees of Houston. I just learned about these about a month ago. Scrolling through instagram I noticed numerous people posting selfies of themselves "ENOing" here. I did some research and learned that these trees were painted blue by artist Dimopoulos along Memorial drive at Waugh.

 3) Free Press Summer Fest on June 1st and 2nd. The lineup this year looks amazing with some of my favorite bands including Passion Pit, Of Monsters and Men and Matt and Kim but sadly I won't be going

4) Taco Milagro. This one is inspired by my brother. When he was in highschool a couple of years ago,
about once a month he and his friends would get together with some girls and go dancing at Taco Milagro on a Saturday night. He would always rave about how much fun he had so naturally I want to experience it for myself atleast once.
 5) The Showboat. The showboat is probably the only drive-in theater in Houston. Melissa and I came up with the idea of driving her Dad's truck up to the showboat and watching a movie in the back of the truck filled with blankets and pillows. I can't think of anything more relaxing than that, especially being with such a good friend!

Γεια σας

As soon as the summer begins, I will be making the longggg and treacherous plane ride to Athens, Greece. The trip will begin with a couple days in Athens( despite the social unrest, rebellious, I know), and then a week spending time on some of the prettiest Islands in the world.
The Gulf Coast, which is the only dose of ocean I ever get to see, is no comparison to the beauty of the Aegean. How can water be so blue???????
To be completely honest, I am just as excited to plan all my outfits for the trip as I am to actually go on the trip. So here are a few things that have caught my eye that would be perfect for Greece, or any travel at all.

Espadrilles, not very popular here in TX but I still love them

So Long Sophomore Year!

The 2012-2013 school year is slowly coming to an end with just 16 school days left! (Yes I have been counting down since spring break). Sophomore year definitely had its highs and lows but was about a million times better than the awkward blurr of freshman year. As I embark on my last two years of highschool I fully expect junior year and senior year to be even more eventful than this year.

The Highs:

-Finally driving! Thank the lord I no longer have to count on my mom for rides, although the DPS was quite intimidating
-Homecoming, hated the dance but loved spending time with my date Kyle, along with the rest of my fun group at the football game and of course getting ready before the dance.

From left to right: Carla, Catherine, Me, Mel

-Cotillion: One of the few dances where the girls get to ask their own date. (Lots of drama involved with that but I'll spare you the details) My best friend Mel and I teamed up and asked our good friends Dan and Matt, who are identical twins. My Cotillion group consisted of all my closest friends which made the dance so much more fun.
                            Matt, Melissa, Dan, and Me

-JV volleyball. With quite a succesful season (25-2)

-CrawfishFRYday's: A tradition started by my friend Anna and I who both share a hungry appetite for crawfish, or any fried seafood.

The Lows:

-AP Testing
-Off season Volleyball. Seriously, we have all discovered our deep hatred for the track or anything involving a jump rope
-No free time on the weekends, thanks to volleyball

Not Quite College Bound

I find it shocking that in a little over two years, I will be saying goodbye to Houston, Texas, my home for over ten years. Although I'm sure this process of moving out is stressful, I couldn't be more thrilled to embark on a new chapter of my live. Recently, I discovered a school that I hope to soon call home, Washington and Lee University. Whether it was the small class sizes, or the preppy overall feel of the campus, I immediately fell in love and at home when stepping foot in this Virginia school.

Here you can see that the size of the campus is not massive at all

The W&L Colonnade. Pretty much all of your classes would be in this area.
(No excuses to be late to class!)

Here is Lee Chapel, One of the more "historical" landmarks within the campus

Hopefully in 2 years, I will be able to call myself a student at W&L, but until then I will continue to enjoy my wonderful school, Memorial High.
